DISNEYLAND - FALL 2009

Well, Thanksgiving break is here and we are ready for another dose of Disney! All 3 kids are on antibiotics for strepthroat and ear infections; never a better time to travel - no worries of getting sick!!

Both Kenna and Harrison say we need one of these in our backyard!!...yeah, we'll get right on that!

We had a great trip this time. The weather was perfect! The only down part of the trip was the flight back to I.F. which left at 6:30a on Thanksgiving morning...we made the plane, arrived in I.F. just in time for Thanksgiving dinner with Adam's family! We'll probably see you in a few months Disney!

PRESCHOOL PROGRAM

Harrison has never been one to be shy around strangers or other people. He will walk around the store with me and wave or say hello to anyone and everyone he comes across - I have always found that cute and have taken comfort in that; because I figure that means he has good self-confidence.

However, today was his preschool program and when it was time for them all to sing the songs, this is the picture I got of Harrison:

He froze in front of everyone and wouldn't sing any of the songs! After the program I asked him why he didn't sing and he told me he was just too embarrassed! Here he is with a smile on his face; releaved that he was finally done!

Harrison's teacher, Miss Karla, did tell me something cute Harrison has said. During the program they were asked what was something they were thankful for and she told me what he had said (although his answer to the crowd was "family") he had originally said, "I'm thankful that I'm not in Heaven anymore because that was just freaky being up there and watching my family down on Earth!" I do love this boy!!

FLASHBACK FRIDAY - WHAT'S OLD IS NEW AGAIN

So, I am coming to the realization that I am getting older...I know, not REALLY old, but that I'm getting old enough to have the alleged "fashion cycle" start another round. I was at the store the other day looking for shoes and came across these:

Does anyone else remember having a pair of these in about 8th grade?!? I swear I owned a pair EXACTLY like these...I even remember having arguments with my mom about wanting to wear them without socks and she was worried my feet would get cold (because it was winter of course) but I would refuse...now, you hardly can find shoes that are meant to be worn with socks...and that really makes me mad, because I don't want my feet to get cold!

I went to the clearance aisle and found this style of sandal: Once again, I had a pair of these, only white, way back in 6th or 7th grade!! I remember me and my best friend, Tausha, had matching sandals! Am I making anyone else feel old?!?

Now onto clothes - When I was in 6th grade, I had this favorite top, that was a TUNIC, and I would wear it with my favorite pair of turqoise LEGGINGS!! Leggings similar to this pair:


When leggings went out of style, I swore I would never wear a pair again...and with my body now, I'm sticking to that promise!!

I was shopping for school clothes for McKenna and started seeing vests and mach-vests everywhere!!

I had a favorite vest outfit back in 8th grade!! My cirlce of friends and I had decided for 8th grade we were "too good" for the average pair of jean and t-shirt. We were going to dress things up and only wear slacks and khakis. I loved my green paisley vest with my black slacks and my black flats (from the picture up above)

Now, I am not judging anyone for wearing these items or having their children wear these items...I am grateful they have updated most of them...My tunic was shaped like a potato sack and had ribbing around the bottom - I actually own some tunics right now and my daughter owns and wears leggings (although it took me awhile to warm up to them again). I am just having a "I feel old" day and seeing some of those trends that were around 20 YEARS ago has not helped!! I just hope the hammer pants don't come back!!!

HALLOWEEN HAPPENINGS

Adam always does a great job carving the pumpkins! Harrison got the little pumpkin from a preschool field trip and McKenna picked the other pumpkins from some my sister, Becky, had grown in their garden:

Harrison got to go trick or treating around his preschool's neighborhood - cute bunch of kids! Harrison decided to be Wolverine this year - he originally wanted to be a vampire and then a wolfman, but after trying on a wolfman mask, he said, "yeah, that's not going to work out so good." and he finally decided on Wolverine. On Halloween night he saw someone dressed up as a zombie, and for now, has already decided that's what he's going to be next year!

Every year, Kenna's school has a costume parade the day they all have their Halloween parties. McKenna was so excited to be Ariel this year - I think it is so cute because she had decided she needs to be every Disney princess for Halloween...so far she has been Snow White, Jasmine and Ariel. Even with the flourescent red wig, she looked great!

I tried to be creative this year with breakfast: Ghostycakes with scrambled brains and witches brew...I thought it would be fun to add food coloring to the eggs - until I HAD added the coloring and saw how gross it really looked!! Kenna wouldn't even touch the eggs. She said, "I will throw up if I eat those and it already looks like they've been puked on!" Harrison and Tyler ate them right up!

QUARANTINED

A bit before Halloween, McKenna came home sick from school; she said her head and back hurt, and she had a fever. So for the next week, not knowing if it was the dreaded swine flu or not, we quarantined our family to our house....and sure enough we all got it! We had to keep ourselves entertained and move away from the t.v. every now and then. We had to get creative - Harrison made me a paper doll (almost life sized):

And we tried making domino trains (with the longest one almost reaching the end of the hall):

and even made body outlines with the dominoes!
